My goal is to reach Formula 1. This was said by racing driver Plamen Balchev in the program “The Morning in Focus”on Radio “Focus”, hosted by Asya Alexandrova.
He is 19 years old. He studied Business Administration in Barcelona for a semester and a half but had to drop out due to the difficulty of balancing training with his studies.
He got into motorsports thanks to his father and karting. In 2022, he attended a Formula 1 race in Monaco. “That’s when I really got hooked. We tried competitive karting, and that’s how it all started. We did some testing and decided to give it a go at a race on the track in Kyustendil,” said Plamen Balchev.
He is currently preparing for a Formula 4 race in Italy. The first race of the Italian championship begins on May 1. The championship spans seven weekends and includes a total of 21 races. “In the Italian Formula, you get more days of practice, which helps you feel more comfortable in the car. During a race weekend, you have a certain number of practice sessions as per the regulations. You can also do additional track testing with the team,” the racing driver shared.
In addition to on-track training, preparation also includes physical conditioning – focusing on explosiveness and endurance.
